October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

A woman is beaten every 9 seconds in the U.S.        

Domestic violence is a crime that affects all of us regardless of race, religion, economic status.  It does not discriminate.

• Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women—more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.
• Studies suggest that up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually.

The Purple Shoe Display is used throughout the state to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Each shoe represents a person who has died in N.C. as a result of domestic violence.
